    Boxbackup

Boxbackup is an online backup client/server application. It was designed to allow a low-cost, but effective backup solution.

I've been looking for this kind of tool for quite some time. Boxbackup is very security oriented with a great potential.

I've been using it for almost 2 years on more than a dozen servers and so I decided to write this article.

Linux File System Headache: Hard Link and Soft Link

If you come from the MS Windows world, think a link as a "shortcut" you created on the desktop.

If you are not, well, a link gives an easy access to a file or directory from somewhere other than its location, and is a way to help you organize your files.

    Linux File permissions: Beyond "rwx"

All the Linux users know about the "rwx" file permissions. These defines if the people who is the owner/ in the same group/ any other people can read/write/execute the file. However, have you notice some other things in the permission field? Sometimes a "s", sometimes a "t", or "c", "b", "l"... What does this mean?     Time Management with Firefox

I don't think I need to say anything about why we want to use the keyboard over a mouse: All the geeks love it, and it's just more efficiency. However when we come to web visiting, it is not easy to just use our keyboard. Of cause we can use text based browsers like links, w3m, or lynx, they are totally keyboard driven, but they also missed lots of good stuff on the web: the images, the videos, the cool AJAX thing, etc. Today we'll use the full featured Firefox, and make it to be fully comfortable to use with your keyboard.

Using GDB in the New Emacs 22

Using GDB is necessary for every C/C++ developer in the Linux world. Though many gurus like the traditional command line, many people want a more integrated interface. At least they don't want to do list all the time.

If you have 10+ GUI applications running and spend lots of time dragging them to the right place, you need a tiling window manager.

In my organization, squid runs on the firewall as a transparent proxy and all web traffic goes through it, while squidGuard filters content. The next step was to set up a reporting tool to create useful reports from the log files.

    Using squidGuard for content filtering

Content filtering for the web can be a messy proposition. There are several open source and commercial options available to fit a variety of scenarios. A business may only need to block the most objectionable web sites, while schools may be required by law to follow a more thorough process. This article examines one solution built with only open source pieces: squid, squidGuard, and blacklists. ~

  Google Apps Afterglow

A lot of virtual ink has been spilled over the recent announcement of Google Apps Premier Edition, yet I am compelled to spill more. Google Apps combines a suite of applications under your own domain including Gmail, Calendar, Talk, and Docs and Spreadsheets. Whether it dents the Microsoft Office hegemony will play out over the next couple of years.
